Cubzoa, the new solo project from Jack Wolter of Penelope Isles, shares new track "I Dreamed a Beach" ahead of UK tour supporting Anna B Savage
Cubzoa is the new solo project from the multi-talented Jack Wolter of Penelope Isles. In-between touring the world as guitarist for CMAT, Jack has spent the past two years writing and recording his debut solo album due for release later this year via Bella Union. Soon to head off on a 8-date UK tour opening for the brilliant Anna B Savage, Cubzoa has today shared a first taste of the album via the shimmering astral folk beauty of first single “I Dreamed a Beach.” Click HERE to listen.
Commenting on the track Cubzoa says: “This was an attempt at capturing a very persuasive dream I had of a cute beach below a peaceful cove. The way the brain can put you somewhere, with someone SOOO vividly can seem so cruel. Originally the song was imagined in a more minimal way - to keep the focus on the lyrics and the story.. but whilst recording the instrumentation and textures surrounding the song came irresistibly, filling the space to encourage the glitches of a dream. The strings, alongside pianos and saxophones were heavily treated with distorted to simulate a wave of white noise towards the end of the tune. I wanted to make something hypnotic that brings the listener back to waking life. The cellos were played by my friends Jamie Bullers and Aenne Bladt. We used just one mic and had them face each other, their intimacy providing fertile ground for improvisation.”
