Renowned electronic-rock artist/producer Celldweller has reimagined Deadcode's emotionally charged track "No Illusion," out now from FiXT.
With the original single released this year on August 15, the remix navigates the delicate balance between chaos and calm, taking listeners on a journey through the feelings of being lost between "nothing and nowhere," as the lyrics suggest, while offering moments of reflection and resolution in the chorus. Blending his signature hard-hitting soundscapes with the raw intensity of the original Celldweller amplifies this intensity, weaving together pounding beats, layered synths, and the industrial grit. Falling into the electronic and industrial genres, this remix delivers a dark, atmospheric twist that perfectly complements the song’s deep lyrical themes.
In their own words: "Chester Bennington once said something like, "when I'm caught up inside my head, it's like a bad neighborhood, and I shouldn't be out walking alone." This is a feeling that many of us suffer from, whether it be depression, substance abuse, or past trauma. I don't like to be alone, and sadly I find myself in that position often due to lots of travel. It can be challenging to not let your mind take you down a dark path with various thoughts and memories. One line from No Illusion is, "...lost again, in your head, between nothing and nowhere, knowing you shouldn't be out there alone."
That encompasses the theme of the song; feeling lost. Yet, you find others, whether it be friends or partners who also struggle with some of the same challenges. The song takes on the idea of two people working through their challenges in life together, often including self-destructive behaviors. The chorus attempts to bring everything to a peaceful place, where you're thinking about existentialism and impermanence. I like to use a lot of figurative language and imagery. In the lyrics are words like "evenfall," "starlight," "nightmare," and lines like "lost again in your head between nothing and nowhere."
