Buffalo Nichols - Hear new track from new album 'The Fatalist' - UK/EU tour announced
HEAR NEW TRACK 'THE DIFFERENCE' HERE
Buffalo Nichols today released 'The Difference', the third single previewing his anticipated new album 'The Fatalist' due out on 15th September via Fat Possum. Nichols explains the pensive, melancholic track is “about someone who often mistakes shallow signs of affection for true love and in the end decides a one-sided relationship is better than loneliness.”

'The Difference' follows 'Love Is All' and his fresh take on Blind Willie Johnson’s 'You're Gonna Need Somebody On Your Bond'.

The self-produced follow-up to his 2021 s/t debut LP for Fat Possum–a critically acclaimed record that earned him his network television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, various major festival performances, and rave coverage via NPR Music (All Songs Considered, Tiny Desk (Home) Concert), Rolling Stone, Guitar World, Texas Monthly, and more. 'The Fatalist' sounds unlike any blues record you’re likely to hear in 2023.
The stakes throughout this album are largely personal, rather than social; Nichols is singing about his life in the first person, and about his desire to forge his own individuality in a world and a music industry that make it nearly impossible to do so. Ringing through “The Fatalist Blues”—and The Fatalist—is a simple question: Do I have any say in how things are going to go? It’s the question behind so much of the physical and psychic pain in the blues, and in a frustrating age that preaches self-empowerment and shames the disenfranchised, it’s a stridently modern question, too. By playing his music the way he wants to play it, by refusing to give up his creative control or accept anyone else’s definition of the blues or indeed his own life, Nichols has tried to forge an answer. Does he have any say in how things are going to go? Let’s find out.
