Brisbane based four piece Beddy Rays have announced their highly anticipated sophomore album, Do What Ya Wanna, set for release in April 2025. To mark the occasion the Brisbane four-piece have also shared the lead single from the albumRed Lights out now everywhere, alongside a western-themed official video clip.

Following on from recent singles ‘Stay The Same’ and 'Hold On’ that will also be featured on the record, ‘Red Lights’ encapsulates the band’s signature high-voltage, larrikin-punk energy whilst lyrically exploring themes of otherness, self-discovery and giving yourself the time and space to figure it all out. Speaking of the new single, the band explains “Red Lights is the lead single of our next record ‘Do What Ya Wanna’. We chose this song because we feel like it sets the tone for the record. It's about overcoming adversity, going through tough times but remaining positive and growing from those moments. Hoping it will resonate with those going through a tough time as it's a reminder that things will always get better.”

To mark the occasion, Beddy Rays have also released a western-inspired video clip directed, produced and edited by Natalie Sim. The band say of the video clip  "Red Lights leans into our jangly, indie style of songwriting, which directly inspired the western-themed clip. We wanted to blend classic Sergio Leone-style cinematography with absurd humour and gritty western vibes — and Nat Day (Method To My Madness) was instrumental in bringing it all together. Honestly, any excuse to whip out the Akubra works for us."

Beddy Rays’ second album, Do What Ya Wanna, captures the heart of the band’s irresistible charm - raw, fun-loving, and heartfelt - whilst also pushing their sound into fresh territory. The record is a celebration of navigating life’s highs and lows, with a unique blend of slapstick humor, heartfelt sincerity, and unapologetic fervor. Themes of mateship, mental health and self-discovery are woven throughout, making it both a cathartic release and a soundtrack for living in the moment. Across the album, themes of escape and release resonate powerfully. Expect songs which tackle the overwhelming excesses of modern life - expectations, authenticity and stress - and offer a simple antidote: being with the people and places you love.

With a sound that nods to the early eras of punk icons like Green Day and Weezer while embracing the melodic expansiveness of bands like Catfish and the Bottlemen,  Do What Ya Wanna marks a natural evolution for Beddy Rays. It’s a reminder of the power of letting loose, staying true to yourself and finding the beautiful in both chaos and connection.

Frontman Jacko reflects, “This album is us - our highs, our lows, and everything in between. Writing it was a way to make  sense of all the craziness life throws at you, but it’s also about not taking yourself too seriously and enjoying the ride. That’s what Beddy Rays is all about.”

About Beddy Rays

These days it’s almost impossible not to recognise a Beddy Rays track, as their music has become a carefully curated recipe involving all the right ingredients: heartfelt lyrics, huge hooks, mosh-worthy riffs and a lingering sense of comradery and good vibes that underpins everything they create.

Beddy Rays started making music together not long after they first met on the primary school oval back in the day, and the release of weekend anthem ‘Sobercoaster’ in 2020 really started shaking things up for these fun-loving larrikins. The cracker of a tune has now certified Gold sales, amassed over 15 million streams and echoed throughout backyards of Australia during triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2020.

The momentum hasn't stopped for a minute with their single 'Handful' landing 83 in the Hottest 100 of 2023, cementing the four-piece as one of the country’s most loveable bands. Their highly anticipated and fully independent debut album was released in July 2022 and achieved #1 Vinyl and #2 Australian Album on the ARIA charts, as well as getting nominated for 'Breakthrough Artist' at the ARIA awards. The four-piece have gained multiple nominations at both the Queensland Music Awards and National Indigenous Music Awards, were announced as winners of the Levi’s Music Prize in 2021 and rocked their cover of Thelma Plum’s Better in Blak for triple Like A Version.

In 2024 Beddy Rays released singles ‘Stay The Same’ and 'Hold On' that will be featured on the forthcoming album. To celebrate the new music, the band took their high-energy show on a 12-stop lap around the country for their Schooner Or Later Tour presented by triple j and Blundstone Australia.

Over the past few years Beddy Rays have taken their electrifying live show around the country playing festival sets at Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Spilt Milk, Super Fun Day, ShoreShocked, The Push, Spin Off and more.
