ALBUM REVIEW: Paul Draper - Cult Leader Tactics
Paul Draper is undeniably one of the faces of Britpop, with a instantly recognisable voice and vocal style. This album is like stepping back in time. It's like Six era Mansun meets Little Kix era Mansun. While some might say Paul has opted for the safe option and maybe that’s true by why evolve and change if you have a recipe that works stick to it.
Songs such as title track “Cult Leader Tactics” and “You’ve got no life skills, Baby” are instant indie anthems and well deserving of being singles. Other stand out tracks are “Omega Man” and “U Killed My Fish”.
There’s not really a bad song on the album. “Everyone Becomes a Problem Eventually” stands out and feels out of place. It's a little too electronica and I personally don’t like it, but it could make an interesting B-side.
Overall the album’s great, a massive dose of nostalgia. While it might not be about to attract a swathe of new fans I think it will keep the ones of us who have been there since the 90’s more than happy.
