Announce first headline show at London’s Waiting Room on 12th June
Currently on tour with THUS LOVE + set to play The Great Escape, Dot to Dot, Get Together Festival and more
South London outfit Ain’t return today with their potent new single “Pirouette”. The single comes as the band continue their packed-out UK tour with THUS LOVE and is announced alongside the news of their debut headline show in London this summer.
“Pirouette” lands on the back of an incendiary year for the band. Having already played showcases for the likes of So Young, Rough Trade, The Alt Escape, and The Windmill, their first two singles “Oar” and “Teething” arrived last summer and marked out the quintet as that rarest of things - a band with a feverish word-of-mouth reputation, despite having not released a single official track, delivering on all the promise that they had built up. The tracks saw widespread support with the band landing digital cover with Dork and props from the likes of Stereogum, NME, CLASH, DIY, The Line Of Best Fit, and So Young, as well as, radio play from BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X, Apple Music 1 and more.
Bringing together the stranger side of ‘90s guitar music, post-punk, and shoegaze from both sides of the Atlantic, Ain’t expertly toe the line between nostalgia and ingenuity. “Pirouette” marks out the band’s opening salvo for 2025, setting the tone for what is shaping up to be another meteoric year. Recorded with Theo Verney (English Teacher, Lime Garden, Egyptian Blue), the track sees Ain’t flexing their knack for complex dynamics with heavily textured, hook-led instrumentation, subtle vocal harmonies, and a combustible rhythm section. The track is also accompanied by a new VHS home-style video that mirrors the ‘90s inflected sound of the track.

Speaking on the single, guitarist/vocalist George Ellerby says “I wrote Pirouette during a period of changes: a relationship had recently ended, I was dating someone who seemed pretty disinterested, and I was moving between precarious flat shares. All through this, it felt the band was anticipating and going through change too. It was during a point when the full lineup of Ain’t was coming together.
When I started writing Pirouette, Ain’t was just Ed, Jeevan and I; by the time it got to the practice room, Joe, Hanna, and Chapman had joined. It was the sum of all of this that inspired the song’s lyrics. I felt like I was sitting on the threshold of something new and was practically screaming out for it, but I also had parts of the past still clinging to me. Pirouette details the drudgery of break ups and the lethargy that can come with dating, but I feel it’s preoccupied with a sense of something overwhelmingly hopeful and exhilarating falling into place.”
“Pirouette” has already become somewhat of a live favourite over the band’s past month of shows in 2024 and will be played out across the band’s current tour with THUS LOVE. To mark the track’s release, the band have also announced their first-ever headline show, which will take place at the Waiting Room in Stoke Newington, London this June.
